Program Overview

Glenala State High School launched our Netball Excellence Program in 2020. We are now a recognised School of Excellence focusing on high performance, academic achievement and leadership and was announced as the “Netball School of the Year” for the 2022 season. We are partnered with local organisations and experts in the field to assist us in providing students with access to world class netball and sport training and coaching. Our target is to develop our students to reach their full athletic potential and aspirations along with building leadership and life skills.
Our Netball Excellence Program is renowned for producing a high percentage of school leaders, gem awards recipients and academic awards. The Excellence Program also achieves outstanding results in Queensland, Metropolitan West and District Tournaments. In 2022, our netball teams won 5 district premierships and 2 metropolitan finals series.

Aim of the Academy

  • To provide a pathway to University and TAFE.
  • The opportunity to develop their netball skills to a highly competitive level, in a positive and supportive environment.
  • Access to expert coaching and personalised training to maximise learning and performance outcomes.
  • The opportunity to develop teamwork and leadership skills in a variety of settings.
  • Targeted support to excel in netball whilst maintaining their performance in academic studies.
  • Theoretical education on general health and personal development, such as mental health, personal identity and relationships, plus specific netball-related elements such as performance analysis, nutrition, fitness components and sport psychology.

Specialised Coaching

Glenala’s Netball Excellence Program is staffed by numerous specialist coaches. Our coaches are actively involved in high level sports across Queensland School Sport, The Queensland Academy of Sport, Reds Rugby, Metropolitan West Regional Sport, Southern Scorpions District Sport and Western District Netball Association. Our Glenala Netball Academy Coordinator Emma Barsi, has 10 years of netball coaching and managing experience up to state level. In addition, she is a Queensland Academy of Sport Athlete, Netball Queensland Intermediate Level 3 Coach, and is the current Southern Scorpions District School Sport Coach for the 13-15 years age group and the U11s Metropolitan West Regional Netball Coach. Our dedicated and passionate staff believe that if our students apply themselves to the program, they will excel and gain positive results in performance and academic pursuits. Students involved in The Netball Excellence Program will participate in a dedicated Strength and Conditioning program and Strategic Skill sessions before and after school as part of the program.
