Program Overview
Glenala State High School launched our Netball Excellence Program in 2020. We are now a recognised School of Excellence focusing on high performance, academic achievement and leadership and was announced as the “Netball School of the Year” for the 2022 season. We are partnered with local organisations and experts in the field to assist us in providing students with access to world class netball and sport training and coaching. Our target is to develop our students to reach their full athletic potential and aspirations along with building leadership and life skills.
Our Netball Excellence Program is renowned for producing a high percentage of school leaders, gem awards recipients and academic awards. The Excellence Program also achieves outstanding results in Queensland, Metropolitan West and District Tournaments. In 2022, our netball teams won 5 district premierships and 2 metropolitan finals series.
Aim of the Academy
- To provide a pathway to University and TAFE.
- The opportunity to develop their netball skills to a highly competitive level, in a positive and supportive environment.
- Access to expert coaching and personalised training to maximise learning and performance outcomes.
- The opportunity to develop teamwork and leadership skills in a variety of settings.
- Targeted support to excel in netball whilst maintaining their performance in academic studies.
- Theoretical education on general health and personal development, such as mental health, personal identity and relationships, plus specific netball-related elements such as performance analysis, nutrition, fitness components and sport psychology.
Specialised Coaching
Glenala’s Netball Excellence Program is staffed by numerous specialist coaches. Our coaches are actively involved in high level sports across Queensland School Sport, The Queensland Academy of Sport, Reds Rugby, Metropolitan West Regional Sport, Southern Scorpions District Sport and Western District Netball Association. Our Glenala Netball Academy Coordinator Emma Barsi, has 10 years of netball coaching and managing experience up to state level. In addition, she is a Queensland Academy of Sport Athlete, Netball Queensland Intermediate Level 3 Coach, and is the current Southern Scorpions District School Sport Coach for the 13-15 years age group and the U11s Metropolitan West Regional Netball Coach. Our dedicated and passionate staff believe that if our students apply themselves to the program, they will excel and gain positive results in performance and academic pursuits. Students involved in The Netball Excellence Program will participate in a dedicated Strength and Conditioning program and Strategic Skill sessions before and after school as part of the program. These are designed to improve our students’ strength and fitness, athletic ability, tactical and strategical awareness as well as build a strong team bond between our students.
ICT Requirements
This program requires students to have a laptop. Students can either bring their own laptop or hire one from the school. Bring Your Own (BYO) laptop recommended minimum specifications (price point $1000-$1300)

* Chromebooks and Windows RT devices are not compatible with the school network
Netball Academy Fees
The cost of the Netball Academy is $100 per year. Student accounts will be invoiced at the beginning of the school year. Full payment is required by the end of Term 3.

Entry Requirements and Acceptance
To be eligible for the Glenala Netball Academy students must show evidence of academic grades that reflect appropriate effort and demonstrate high standards of attitude and behaviour.
The Netball Academy Program is an exclusive program for a select 28 students and a trial day may be required to assist with the selection process. All submitted Expression of Interest forms will be reviewed by the Glenala Netball Academy Co-ordinator. Parents/Guardians will be contacted with further details as each application is reviewed.
Glenala Netball Academy – Student Expectations
Glenala Netball Academy (GNA) aims to inspire young people to develop their health, wellbeing and leadership through netball. This is a unique opportunity for your young person, but as such, we have high expectations on all students involved. Therefore, all students who wish to participate in GNA must ensure that their Academic Performance, Attendance, Behaviour and Effort at school are aligned with their sporting commitment.
