We cater for a range of student abilities providing opportunities for, and subsequently celebrating, academic and co-curricular successes, in classrooms, culturally, and in sporting arenas. In catering for the strengths of students in our community and preparing them for 21st Century life-long learning, we offer a specialist Arts Enhancement class for students entering Year 7.
Aims
The Academy of Creative Arts (ACA) is an excellence program designed to offer students an insight into professional performance and production techniques in areas such as singing, public speaking, recital, dance, drama, design, stage technology, media techniques and visual arts. ACA is an extension of the Australian Curriculum and enables students to develop skills in the curriculum areas of Making and Responding.
Program Overview
Glenala State High School prides itself on its Arts Programs. Classes are offered in each of the five Arts Curriculum areas of Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music and Visual Arts. Students have opportunities to also participate in co-curricular activities such as Instrumental Music, Vocal Group, Dance Troupe, Stage Band, Music Club, Media Club and Visual Arts Club. Each year, thousands of members of the community support the professional standard performances of students at events such as G-Cultural (formally known as the Multicultural Concert), GGT (Glenala’s Got Talent), and Arts Showcase. ACA is designed for students who have a deep passion and enthusiasm for the Performing Arts. Regardless of which pathways students choose for their career, ACA provides opportunities for 21st Century creative thinking, skills in performing, and group work. The backgrounds and differences of every student at Glenala are proudly and deliberately included in ACA. Students who have previously participated in school performances have often commented on their increased confidence at school and life in general.
ACA is offered to students in Year 7, 8 and 9 as a specialist Arts Class, followed by the opportunity to specialise in elective subject strands such as Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music, and Visual Arts. Students will study in the ACA Program for a minimum of 3 x 70-minute lessons per week for both semesters in Year 7, as well as English, Maths, Science, Humanities and HPE.
Post School Options
On completion of Year 12, students may choose to study in The Arts at either University or TAFE, or seek employment in The Arts industries. Industry employment opportunities include careers as an actor, stage manager, sound and lighting technician, musician, dancer, media producer, workshop leader, designers and teacher.
Students in the ACA course are challenged through their interactions with professional organisations which have previously included local bands, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, RAW (dance company), Queensland Ballet, River 94.9, Pannic Productions and other local theatre groups.

This program requires students to have a laptop. Students can either bring their own laptop or hire one from the school. Bring Your Own (BYO) laptop recommended minimum specifications (price point $1000-$1300)

ACA Fees
Glenala State High School has a state of the art performance hall. ACA activities are mostly self-funded providing resources and performance materials such as stage lighting and equipment maintenance. Students enrolled in ACA will be required to pay $60 per year for the Instrumental Music component of this program. Student accounts will be invoiced at the beginning of the school year. Full payment is required by the end of Term 3. Any additional events, excursions or performance requirements may incur an additional cost.
Entry Requirements
To be considered for entry into ACA, students must have a passion for the Arts and have achieved a minimum C standard in both English and at least one Arts subject on their most recent report card.
Students should lodge an Application Form and be prepared for an interview with the HOD- The Arts and Junior School Director of Student Achievement (JDOSA).
