Successful applicants will be notified by 17 October 2025 


Aims of the Netball Excellence Program

  • ​Provide students with the opportunity to develop elite-level netball skills in a positive and supportive environment.
  • ​Offer expert coaching and personalised training to optimise skill development, performance, and game strategy.
  • Foster teamwork and leadership skills through various competitive and collaborative experiences.
  • Deliver targeted support to help students excel in netball while maintaining strong academic performance.
  • Provide theoretical education on both personal development (mental health, identity, and relationships) and netball-specific knowledge (performance analysis, nutrition, fitness components, and sport psychology).
  • Establish clear pathways to university, TAFE, and elite netball programs, supporting students in both their sporting and academic aspirations.





Specialised Coaching

The Glenala Netball Academy is led by a team of highly experienced specialist coaches actively engaged in elite-level netball and school sport across Queensland. Our coaching staff contribute to Queensland School Sport, the Queensland Academy of Sport, Metropolitan West Regional Sport, Southern Scorpions District Sport, and the Western District Netball Association.

Our Netball Academy Coordinator, Miss Emma Barsi, brings over 10 years of coaching and management experience at the state level. She is an ex-Queensland Academy of Sport athlete, a Netball Queensland Intermediate Level 3 Coach, and currently serves as the Southern Scorpions District School Sport Coordinator, the U11s Metropolitan West Regional Netball Coach, and a Metropolitan West representative coach. In 2024, she was recognised by Netball Queensland as the Netball Teacher of the Year, highlighting her commitment to player development and excellence.

Coaching Team

The Glenala Netball Academy coaching team is made up of highly qualified and experienced professionals, each bringing a unique skill set to the program. Miss Ridley, a State League netball player, also coaches within the Southern Scorpions District Netball program, specialising in high-performance player development. Miss Jefferis, as the Southern Scorpions District Netball Manager, ensures strong program coordination and athlete progression. Miss Clifford and Miss Nelson, both Southern Scorpions District Netball Coaches and State League AFL players, provide expertise in athletic performance, strategic gameplay, and leadership development. Collectively, our coaching staff have extensive experience across regional, state, and elite-level competitions, ensuring that all GNA athletes receive the highest level of coaching and mentorship.

Strength & Conditioning (S&C) Team

All our Strength and Conditioning (S&C) coaches are highly experienced in gym-based training and hold qualifications in Health and Physical Education. Additionally, Mr O'Neill, Miss Barsi, Miss Ridley, Mr Tith and Mr Grainger hold their Certificate IV in Fitness, bringing extra expertise to the program and ensuring our athletes receive specialised, high-quality training.

At GNA, we believe that dedication and hard work lead to success. Our staff are committed to ensuring that every student who applies themselves will excel both on the court and in the classroom.

Students in the Netball Academy take part in a comprehensive Strength and Conditioning program, alongside Strategic Skill sessions before and after school. These sessions are designed to:
✅ Enhance strength, fitness, and athletic ability
✅ Develop tactical and strategic awareness
✅ Build resilience, teamwork, and strong team connections.

Through our expert coaching and structured training approach, GNA students are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and discipline to succeed at the highest levels of netball and beyond.​

Netball Academy Fees

The cost of the Netball Academy is $100 per year.  Student accounts will be invoiced at the beginning of the school year. Full payment is required by the end of Term 3. 

Fees include payment for selected competitions, transport for Super 7's tournaments in Term 1, 2 & 3 and a GNA Merchandise item.

Any additional events, camps or activities will incur an additional cost.


How to apply

To be eligible for the Glenala Netball Academy, students must show evidence (Report Card) that reflects appropriate effort and demonstrates high standards of attitude and behaviour.

Please be advised that we are a catchment managed school. Please check the catchment map External link to see if you are eligible to apply.

Students are required to complete a written application (click here to download this application) to be considered for this program.

Please return your application and latest two report cards to the Glenala SHS office or email enrol@glenalashs.eq.edu.au.

Successful applicants are required to book an enrolment interview in a timely manner.

Student Expectations

Students are expected to actively and positively engage in all aspects of school life, both in and outside of the classroom. Students must meet and maintain set standards in Academic, Performance, Attendance, Behaviour and Effort to both obtain a position and remain in the Program. ​
